Code of Student Conduct

Code of Student Conduct and Community Standards

Central Community College is committed to fostering a campus environment that is conducive to academic inquiry, an enjoyable campus life, and thoughtful study and discourse. The student conduct plan within the Student Services Division is an educational and developmental process that balances the interests of individual students with the interests of the entire CCC community.

A productive community exists on the basis of shared values and principles. At CCC, student members of the community are expected to uphold and abide by certain standards of conduct that form the basis of the Code of Student Conduct. These standards are embodied within a set of core values that include integrity, social justice, respect, community and responsibility.

When members of the community fail to exemplify these values by engaging in violation of the rules within the Code of Student Conduct, campus conduct proceedings are used to uphold standards. The student conduct process at CCC is not intended to punish students; rather, it exists to protect the interests of the community and to appropriately address those whose behavior is not in accordance with policies. Sanctions are intended to challenge students’ moral and ethical decision-making and to help them readjust behavior in accordance with community expectations.

It is important to note that the student conduct process purposefully differs from the legal process. The student conduct process is not bound by court timelines, external rules of evidence, confrontational discourse, or the burden of proof “beyond a reasonable doubt” used in a court proceeding. However, the student conduct process does include some protections of due process, such as written notice and a hearing before an objective decision-maker.

No student will be found in violation of Central Community College policy without information showing that it is more likely than not that a policy violation occurred. Any sanctions will be proportionate to the severity of the violation and to the cumulative conduct history of the student.
