Academic Success Center - Columbus

Student and Raider Rex study in Academic Success Center.

The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides many services for students. These include on-campus, and online tutoring, Writing Coaches for all subjects, computer lab use, printing, computer assistance, Academic Skill Builder workshops, and non-credit Academic English classes for English Language Learners.

Tutoring

Tutoring is a free service to our students. Our tutors have knowledge in specific subjects and will act as a learning resource for students. They will help students review and study what they have learned in class. One-on-one and group tutoring is available in selected subjects.

Peer Tutors

We are also seeking students who want to become tutors. If you have an above average grade in a specific course and want to help others learn, then you may qualify. Our tutors are paid and work with Academic Success Center staff to set tutoring hours that work with both the tutor’s schedule and the needs of the Center. Tutors may have the opportunity to work with individual students and/or lead study groups.

Virtual Tutoring

Students can access subject-specific tutors at scheduled times through virtual tutoring. This will allow face-to-face tutoring in real time.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental instruction is offered in courses that are historically difficult for students. In this effort, a former student who has excelled in one of these subject areas offers additional teaching sessions to students. The leader of these sessions presents course material utilizing a variety of methods and perspectives to assist students in mastering the material. Contact the Academic Success Center at 402-562-1297 for more information on Supplemental Instruction availability.

Testing for Students with Accommodations

Students who have an accommodation letter through Disability Services can utilize the Academic Success Center for testing accommodations. They need to inform their instructor and make an appointment with the ASC staff before testing.
